This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.

I’ve been working through the excellent Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, a kind birthday gift from Matt, tons of quite unjustly forgotten drinks in there (and some understandably ignored).
My favourite so far is the Algonquin - a drink I first heard of during an extensive Dorothy Parker binge in my late teens. It’s one of those drinks that difficult to picture what it tastes like:
2 Rye Whisky
1 Dry vermouth
1 Pineapple juice
Shake hard with ice, pour into a martini glass and add a cocktail cherry.
It’s a delicious thing - dry, light, both raspy and tasting of brown sugar - and surprisingly not at all fruity. Shaking it hard produces a light creamy foam on the top and a velvetty feel to the drink. I’ve a feeling I’m going to have to buy more Rye.
